Tight economies often tempt employers to skip pre-employment physicals. Not a good idea! For instance, say you advertise an open position that requires heavy lifting. The worker you hire with two strong arms, it turns out, also had a soft tissue injury several years ago. One wrong twist or too-heavy lift can exacerbate that latent injury and leave you open to a big workers' comp claim. It's up to physicians to accurately assess whether and to what degree an injury is directly related to a patient's current job or more attributable to a pre-existing condition. One degree's difference can mean thousands of dollars disappearing from your company's coffers. Airport Clinic workers' comp clinic in Valdosta Industrial Park can help your company on both ends of this scenario. We can accurately assess whether a potential hire is physically able to do the job, protecting you from a worker's compensation claim. And if an on-the-job injury or illness does occur, we can help identify whether an employee's (often undisclosed) pre-existing condition is primarily or partially to blame.

If you've got a potential new hire on the line and want to be sure he or she is physically fit for the job, you'll want a thorough employment physical conducted prior to your new worker's start date. Airport Clinic is your source. We offer a full range of occupational health services including pre-employment physicals, employee drug testing and immunizations.

Requiring an employment physical is a cost-effective way to assure your new employee's safety while on the job. It's critical to obtain an honest disclosure of all present and past conditions or injuries that may affect your employee's ability to effectively perform his duties without potential harm to himself or others. For instance, an employee who has suffered a back injury in the past may be unable to lift heavy objects or perform duties that require lots of bending and twisting or whole body vibration (such as using a sandblaster) without aggravating that injury, potentially causing further damage. And a worker with a bum knee may not be the best suited candidate for a job that requires long periods of being on ones feet.

A thorough employment physical can help identify an employee's physical and medical weaknesses and strengths, allowing you to decide whether a candidate is right for a particular job, better suited for a different duty or simply not the right fit for your company.

Particularly for small companies, an employment physical also can help keep your bottom line in good shape. The results and proper analysis of an employment physical can help an employer manage both the employee's health risks and the company's legal and financial risks when it comes to certain duties. This allows employers to establish preventative procedures and limit future liabilities based on an employee's documented medical and fitness information. Plus, losing an employee for any reason results in turnover costs that studies show can cost as much as 30% of that worker's annual salary. So, the costs of an employment physical can be an investment that pays off in savings.

Airport Clinic also offers medical screening and surveillance that meets strict OSHA standards. Medical screenings are conducted for detecting disease or body dysfunction before an individual typically would seek medical care. Medical surveillance is the analysis of health information designed to identify problems occurring in the workplace that require targeted prevention.

To make sure your potential and current employees remain healthy and productive, arrange for an employment physical at Airport Clinic, Inc. today.

DOT Physical

For commercial motor vehicle drivers, Airport Clinic offers the government-mandated Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration physical exam, commonly known as the DOT physical. These periodic examinations are design to monitor health conditions that could be caused or aggravated by the long periods of sitting and whole body vibration experienced while driving, and the bending, twisting and heavy lifting that may be required in related daily duties including performing mechanical repairs and loading or unloading.

Although DOT physicals typically can be offered at the worksite, many drivers prefer the comfort and privacy of a clinic setting. Airport Clinic performs DOT physicals and other occupational health services at its location on Gil Harbin Industrial Boulevard. Our urgent care medical clinic is designed with the patient's comfort in mind.

Not every medical clinic or healthcare provider can perform DOT physicals. Airport Clinic has been providing these exams for some 15 years and has attended the latest training programs approved by the Office of Motor Carriers.  Airport Clinic is an approved examination provider because of our well-documented, high patient satisfaction rates, attention detail and strong assessment skills. The DOT physical exam is highly regulated and has potentially serious consequences for the driver, so it must be thorough and accurate. The smallest detail could disqualify a driver from continued employment as a licensed CDL driver, adversely affecting his or her livelihood. But passing a driver who truly is no longer physically or medically able to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle could pose a threat to himself and to others on the road.

We also offers OSHA Physicals. With some 15 years experience in this field definitely gives us an edge on providing you with the best possible monitoring you can receive. These Physical include extensive questionnaires specifically designed to meet the employers' OSHA requirements. During this time an assessment of the work environment and potential risk of exposure is also determine.  From training programs to fit testing and respirator programs we can assist you in most every aspect with industry needs.
